Just bought an O2 sim card with 1 GB on it here in Stralsund. It’s been two days and still no data. I do have bars and H+ on the top strip. Says its connected to O2. What am I doing wrong? Should I give up and try Vodaphone? I’ll be driving around Germany until Nov. 16 and really rely on data on my phone. First time I’ve had any problems in any country. O2 offices here are not very helpful just want to sell contracts, same for T and Vodaphone.

I am not sure what is wrong with the connection, maybe you have the wrong network settings. You should contact O2 customer service, because all the local shops don’t provide any support, they only sell contracts. See customer support contact details here: Customer Support Contact Details

Hi. i will be two months in Germany but need to place calls to Mexico and US almast every day. What prepaid/plan can you recommend? Looking throughout your webpage I believe Callya allnet flat (22 eu) can be an options. But it doesn´t say anything about international calls (US/Mex). Please make a recomendation….Thanks

    • MyGermanPhone

International calls made over the mobile network are usually very expensive when you are calling country that is not part of the European Union. This is why we recommend to use a third-party provider such as Google Voice or Skype, where you can also purchase credit to call landlines or mobile numbers in almost every country in the world. And you can simply use these providers with the respective app on your smartphone, using your mobile data allowance (the carriers do not block VoIP anymore).

My daughter is having trouble finding a good data plan 5gb for her iPhone in Berlin. She will be in Berlin for a month and also in Prague and Vienna for 2 weeks. Any suggestions? Thanks

I tried to purchase 9.99 for 4 weeks with a sim card and the price was 55(what i heard from vodafone filiale in berlin). Is this the right price? Seems its way more expensive than what i heard. I thought sim card usaully costd about 15 euros.

Which simcard do u suggest to a foreign student who wants to stay in germany for 3 years? Something with good internet coverage but also not expensive

    • MyGermanPhone

Hi, if you want a postpaid plan, Vodafone has really good offers for students (double data allowance for free). If you like Prepaid, Congstar might be a good option, because they have the best network but are not too expensive.

    Hello:

Does CallYa have the same 4G coverage as Vodafone? I’m assuming yes because CallYa is the prepaid version of Vodafone.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

I’m traveling to Germany, Poland, Czechia, and Denmark (landing in Germany first). I just need a data SIM card preferably 1GB and above). I heard there are restrictions for non-German folks buying SIM cards over the counter at German airports. I’ve read bunch of forums and still confused whether that is the case. What course of action would you recommend? Thanks for your great website!

    • MyGermanPhone

It is possible for anyone to purchase a SIM card, you might just have to present your passport for the registration!
You can also request international shipping through our website.

If you are a heavy traveller, you should avoid lil companies like congstar or aldiTalk and so on. Vodafone and O2 should provide EU-Roaming within their plans (Vodafone allows you to use your whole data within other EU countries, O2 allows up to 1GB at high speed). So just get a data plan and ur all set. Reveiving calls and sms would be free and placing calls and sms within the country you are visiting would be charged similarly to a call to Germany (So if you have a free calling plan, you can call for free to both German destinations and the destinations within the EU member country you are visiting)

If you plan to stay for about a month, it’d be good to order a prepaid sim card with a plan, if you will stay for several years, but at least 2 years, I’d suggest anyone to order postpaid plans instead as they’re cheaper in the long-term use (e.g. I am paying 13€/mo for 4GB LTE, unlimited Call&Text to all German destinations, free EU-Roaming incl.)

  14. Melissa
